Dentures in Busan
Dentures are removable replacements for missing teeth — complete dentures for a full arch, partial dentures where some natural teeth remain. At Dr. Oh's Dental Clinic in Haeundae, Busan, a new denture usually takes four to six visits over several weeks, with adjustment appointments afterwards.
Types of denture
- Complete denture — replaces all teeth in an upper or lower arch, held by suction and the shape of the ridge.
- Partial denture — fills gaps where natural teeth remain, retained by clasps or precision attachments.
- Implant-supported overdenture — a denture that clips onto two or more implants. Dramatically more stable, particularly in the lower jaw where conventional dentures move most.
What to expect while adjusting
New dentures feel bulky and change speech and taste for the first weeks. Sore spots are normal and are corrected by small adjustments — that is what the follow-up appointments are for, and there is no need to endure them. Eating takes practice: start with soft food cut small, chew on both sides at once, and build up.
Anyone who tells you a new denture will feel like natural teeth immediately is not being straight with you. Most people adapt well over four to eight weeks.
Care and maintenance
Clean dentures daily over a basin of water with a denture brush and non-abrasive cleaner, not ordinary toothpaste. Leave them out overnight in water so the tissues can recover. Keep seeing us annually even with a full denture: the ridge continues to resorb, dentures need relining every few years, and oral cancer screening still applies.
Insurance for older patients
National Health Insurance in Korea provides support for complete and partial dentures for patients aged 65 and over, with a patient co-payment and replacement interval rules. Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to get dentures?
Typically four to six appointments over four to eight weeks, covering impressions, bite registration, a try-in and fitting, followed by adjustment visits. Immediate dentures fitted straight after extractions are possible but always need relining once healing is complete.
Are implant-supported dentures worth the extra cost?
For lower dentures, most patients find the difference substantial, because a conventional lower denture has little to hold it in place. Two implants can transform stability. Whether that justifies the cost is a personal decision, and we will lay out both options rather than steer you.
My denture is loose. Can it be fixed?
Usually yes. Looseness after a few years is normally due to bone resorption under the denture, and a reline restores the fit at much lower cost than a new denture. Come in and we will tell you which one your case needs.
Can I sleep with my dentures in?
It is better not to. Leaving dentures out overnight allows the gum tissue to recover and reduces the risk of fungal infection. Store them in water so they do not dry out and distort.
